Orioles Sign First Overall Pick Adley Rutschman to Record $8.1 Million Signing Bonus

Rutschman topped Astros’ Pitcher Gerrit Cole by $100,000 to claim the new record in signing bonus money. Cole had received $8 million from the Pittsburgh Pirates when he was drafted with the 1st overall pick in 2011. Both players are deserving; Rutschman leaves Oregon State as one of the best catching prospects in MLB Draft history.

Rutschman was advised and is now represented by Dan Vertlieb and Danny Horwits of Beverly Hills Sports Council (BHSC). BHSC is a full-service agency committed to helping baseball players achieve their goals, both on and off the field. Rutschman is well equipped to take care of the brunt of the on the field work. He led the Beavers to a College World Series victory in 2018 and was later named the Most Outstanding Player of the series. His personal achievements this past 2019 season bested his seemingly untouchable 2018 season. Rutschman hit a cool .411 and had a 2:1 walk to strikeout ratio. He earned the Golden Spikes Award for his efforts, awarded to the nation’s top amateur baseball player. Another catching prospect won this award back in 2010; Bryce Harper.

During his introductory press conference, Rutschman was questioned about his spending plans with the bonus money. “I’m pretty happy with my Honda Civic,” the humble Oriole responded. Now devoid of the constricting amateur status, maybe BHSC will inquire about an endorsement deal with the automobile manufacturer. With his professional contract signed, Rutschman’s next move is to join Baltimore’s Gulf Coast League roster for spring training. He will be flanked by the masses trying to get a look at the Oriole’s future face of the franchise.
