Cervando Tejeda, Principal and Founder of Athlete Sports Management (ASM), announced on Instagram the 2021 NBA Draft Class. Derek Culver, DJ Steward, and DJ Funderburk have signed with Athlete Sports Management.
Derek Culver – West Virginia University
The 6’11.5″, 255-pound, forward is from Youngstown, Ohio where he attended high school at Warren G Harding and also attended Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. Culver finished his 2020-2021 season averaging 14.3 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. He led his team in rebounds and for the majority of the season was averaging double double. He was awarded All-Big 12 1st Team, NABC NCAA D1 All-District 8 2nd Team, and USBWA All-District II Team for the 2020-2021 season. He has previously been awarded All-Big 12 Honorable Mention, Academic All-Big 12 Men’s Basketball First Team, All-Big 12 Second Team, and All-Big 12 Freshman Team (unanimous selection). At Brewster Academy, he received First Team NEPSAC Class AAA Selection, and helped Brewster capture its eight NEPSAC Class AAA regular season title in the last 11 seasons.
DJ Steward – Duke University
The 6’2″, 163-pound Freshman guard is from Chicago, Illinois where he attended Whitney Young High School. He attended the same high school as former Blue Devil Jahlil Okafor. Steward finished the 2020-2021 season averaging 13 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. He was awarded ACC All-Freshman Team and ACC All-Academic Team. He led All ACC freshman in scoring. Prior to Duke, he was a five-star combo guard. Steward was ranked as the No. 23 player overall and the No. 2 player in the state of Illinois in ESPN’s 100’s rankings for the class of 2020. He was a 2020 McDonald’s All-American. Steward also received the following accolades: Named the Illinois Player of the Year by the Chicago Sun Times and Prep Hoops, Name to MaxPreps All-America Fourth Team and participated in the 2019 USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team October Minicamp.
DJ Funderburk – NC State University
The 6’10”, 225-pound redshirt senior is from Cleveland, Ohio where he attended high school at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia. During the 2020-2021 season, Funderburk ended the season averaging 12.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. He helped his team advance to the NIT Elite Eight before losing to Colorado State. During the 2019-2020 season, Funderburk appeared in 30 games, making 15 starts. He averaged 12.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. He shot 60.9% from the field which led the team and ranked as third-highest season field goal percentage in program history. He led the team in ACC play with 6.8 rebounds per game average.
