Philadelphia Networking Event

What: Symposium – The Business of Sports Networking – Philadelphia

Where: The Field House, 1150 Filbert Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107

When: Tuesday, June 16, 2009 (6:30 p.m.)

Description:

Russell Scibetti of The Business of Sports blog, is putting together a networking event in Philadelphia, PA.  It is intended for sports business professionals that work/live in the PHI area.

I am a big believer in the value of networking and building a strong group of confidants to help you progress to greatness.  It is a lot easier than going at it alone, and makes you much less anti-social in the process.  Having allies only strengthens your own personal brand, and can hedge any potential risks for your clients.  Social networking is great, but it is not enough.  It will always be preferable to meet others in person, shake hands, and even get some pictures…that you can then add to your Facebook.

There is no charge to attend the Philadelphia event.  And there is only one rule: No Resumes.

Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.

Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
