Dad’s Corner: Diagnosing UF

Dad’s Corner is a new feature on I Want to be a Sports Agent. My father, Phil Heitner, is a fan of the blog and has some pretty opinionated feelings on the world of sports. I will let him voice some of his opinions each weekend. Enjoy:

In watching UF’s defense, I believe that they need to go away from zone coverage to man to man with the safeties moving up at least 5 yards closer. They also need to rush at least 5 on most plays. They did go to man to man coverage in most of the second half and it was a large improvement. They went back to zone on Auburn’s final drive and we all saw the results: short slant passes and better runs setting them up for the final field goal. Their secondary is fast but not experienced enough for zone coverage. It would be better for them to be beat on an occasional long pass than having an 80% completion record against them on passes under 15 yards.

As far as their offense is concerned, UF has a light offensive line that is young and fast. They will improve under their excellent coaching. Tebow is too precious a commodity to run up the middle as much as he is doing. If he goes down with a major injury they can kiss this season goodbye.

These view points are mine and not necessarily my son’s.
