When I first heard that the new United Football League (UFL) lost $30 million in its inaugural year and that its executives were not at all phased by that number, I wondered what was up. Sure, they might not have expected immediate success, but $30 million sure seems like a large chunk of change to lose in your first year. But maybe the UFL isn’t looking so bad after all. People are still buying into the idea of having a domestic alternative to the NFL, not named the Arena Football League or AF2.
In fact, apparently two people together have committed $20 million to buy the rights to two new teams (making the total number of UFL teams increase to six). Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com thinks that the league needs to work hard on producing new uniforms. Before they do that, I think they need to do some work on getting a better TV deal.
