In a recent interview, with Jason Whitlock, a reporter for the Kansas City Star, Tom Condon called himself an offensive lineman. The comment was in response to the question of whether or not Mr. Condon cared that he was not as notorious as names like Drew Rosenhaus and Scott Boras in the Sports Agent world. Condon said “I don’t care about that stuff. I;m a team player.”
For those of you who watched the 2006 NFL Draft, you may remember Tom Condon as the patient older-looking man standing beside superstar Matt Lienart as he slipped down to the Arizona Cardinals. Tom Condon used to be the head football agent at IMG, but is now in control of the sports division at long-time entertainment agency, CAA.
Condon is reported as saying that he was just too bored working at IMG. It sure is a terrible thought that someone could be bored at an agency as successful as IMG, but then again, success does not necessarily entail a good workplace. At CAA, Condon has clients such as Peyton Manning, Matt Lienart, and Tony Gonzalez (not too shabby).
The man who hopes to reinvent what it means to be a Sports Agent is also a former NFL Players Union rep. Tom Condon has a ton of experience in his field and hopes to make a lot of changes to the business of representing Sports talent over at Creative Artists Agency.
Straight from Mr. Condon:
Two years ago I told IMG that the sports agent of the future needed to have ties with other entertainers. These athletes are celebrities and entertainers just like movie stars and rock stars. But IMG wasn’t interested.
Tom Condon may be one of the strongest, progressive agents in the business of sports. It will be interesting to see what kind of changes he will bring to the field of sports in the time that he serves at CAA.
