Last weekend was quite a weekend. I finally got to see one of the college baseball players that we are tracking. He went 0-5 with a BB but he made some nice defensive plays and displayed some good speed. I also got to introduce myself to his mother and father. They seemed like very nice people. This was a new process for them and they seemed grateful that I introduced myself. They asked me to attend his game this coming weekend. It is also not too far from Harrisburg so I’ll probably attend again. I can get some more footage of their son and talk about Dynasty becoming his adviser as he prepares for the next step of his carer.
It is hard to imagine, but this coming week, April 26-30, will be my final week as an intern with Dynasty. It has been an awesome four months and it has truly been a learning experience. I’ve learned so much during my time here and hopefully shared some valuable insights with readers. Next Friday will be my final post as an intern. I will still contribute to the blog as I did before my internship, but will no longer post under the “An Intern(al) Look At Becoming A Sports Agent” heading. I spoke with a college professor of sports management this week regarding my posts. I am going to condense these posts into the highlights and nuts and bolts points for him to be able to share with his classes.
This past week involved compiling a few marketing related documents for Dynasty to use in talks regarding future opportunities that may be available to the company. One was to be part of Dynasty’s full blown marketing plan. It involved my knowledge of the company and my knowledge of the industry. I came up with market objectives for Dynasty’s High School baseball area of expertise. Then I developed ideas for marketing strategies in order to reach those objectives. Finally, I contributed some ideas for marketing tactics involving our high school baseball program.
Along with the other interns, I also helped compile contact information for certain basketball leagues in Asia. We are trying to place some clients over there and needed the right contact information. I am also continuing to work on compiling contact information for other Asian leagues and also some in Europe. I also began contacting some of these clubs to try and gauge their interest in wanting any of our clients as import players for their teams. So far I haven’t received any responses, but I just made the inquiry and will give it a few days to reach the correct people.
I continued my regular tasks of providing daily Minor League baseball stat updates on our clients and also tracking college players we have on our radar. I found it ironic this week that Nick Czyz’s team, the High Desert Mavericks, had 3 home games either suspended or postponed due to rain. So much for the desert being dry. As you probably already know, one of our clients, Johnny Lujan, got promoted to AAA Buffalo as well. Congratulations Johnny. Keep up the good work.
Finally, I filled out my internship exit interview form. It was a series of questions describing my internship experience and what I liked and disliked about it. I had nothing negative to say, as this was definitely a great experience. I recommend anyone interested in this industry to apply to Dynasty’s program or any other program that offers internships. It will really give you a sense of the things that go on daily in the industry. It’s not all glamorous like everyone may think, but for some (hopefully me included one day), it is a great way to spend your working time.
