I have only 10 sleeps left in my current home in Fort Lauderdale until I move from Victoria Park to the isles off Las Olas. It has always been a dream of mine to live on the water, and soon, at 32-years-old, I get to turn that dream into a reality. I had no idea […]
Author: Darren Heitner
Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
I attended my first Home Run Derby and boy, was that a blast! Aaron Judge is surely a strong new face for baseball and Miami did a wonderful job hosting the event. It was shocking to see the stadium filled to the brim, as usually it’s just you and your best friends in attendance. Still […]
Lots of 7’s in today’s date. It’s a big month for me. I’m closing (hopefully) on a house on July 31, which is not so easy when you’re also trying to run a law firm. Then, I have a tenant moving into my current place at the beginning of August. So, end of July/early August […]
Wishing an enjoyable very long weekend for those of you taking Monday and Tuesday off in celebration of July 4 next week. Congrats to Heitner Legal client Draymond Green for winning Defensive Player of the Year. Quite the honor for a man who was once told he was not cut to be an NBA player. […]
Happy post-2017 NBA Draft wrap-up of sports biz stories. Shout out to New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft for donating $6 million to create the new Kraft Family Sports Campus in Jerusalem. Big news in the daily fantasy sports world this week (I have a Forbes article below on it) concerning the FTC getting in […]
Last weekend I had a marvelous time in the Hudson Valley followed by some good comedy and eats in New York City. But as always, it’s damn good to be back home. Speaking of which, my current house is for sale. I’ll give a special rate to a Sports Agent Blog reader. In August, I’ll be […]
Good morning from Amenia, NY, where I will be spending the day playing a round of golf at Silo Ridge Field Club. I considered taking a trip from there to the Belmont Stakes, but decided to do Saturday in Manhattan instead. With my fiancee by my side (we are celebrating her birthday), it should hopefully […]
We are in the NBA Finals and all is right in the world of professional basketball once again. Officially in Summer and the heat wave has hit the State of Florida. I’m not complaining, as I have lived through it for the vast majority of my life, but can’t Winter be Coming already? News broke […]
The federal judge assigned to the lawsuit that Independent Sports & Entertainment (ISE) brought against basketball agent Dan Fegan has denied Fegan’s motion to dismiss and remanded the case back to state court. In the lawsuit, ISE alleges that Fegan breached a non-compete agreement and asked the court to enjoin Fegan from continuing to practice […]
Who is looking forward to finishing up work and heading home to enjoy the long weekend? Boring NBA Playoffs so far, which should hopefully pick up come the NBA Finals. Perhaps you read about Draymond Green’s new trademark filings? That was a Heitner Legal job! A couple of days ago marked exactly seven months out of […]
