In a former post, I posed a question as the title of a post: Can Olympic/Student Athletes Obtain Endorsements? After using Jeremy Bloom as a case-in-point, the answer was found to be a decisive no. But why are student-athletes allowed to compete in boxing matches while they are in college and accumulate $25,000 prizes, while […]
Author: Darren Heitner
Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
The “All American Series”
American Airlines, AA.com, is taking advantage of their monopoly of the 2006 NBA Finals by claiming its “Home Court Advantage.” If you have not figured it out yet, or you just think that the Miami Heat still play in the Miami Arena, both Miami’s new arena that they currently play in and the arena that […]

Everyone imagines the stereotypical Sports Agent as a man with slicked back hair, ruthless in negotiations, and always on his cell phone. While stereotypes often simplify or generalize a situation to a great degree (there are women agents that do not have slicked back hair and are calm and collected in negotiations), they sometimes hold […]
Screw Arbitration, Throw Me The Rock!
Today there was a very interesting article in a blog that I subscribe to called: Concurring Opinions. In a post titled, “Rock, Paper, Scissors ADR”, Dave Hoffman reports on a case where a federal judge in Florida decided to resolve a dispute between two attorneys that could not resolve any issue between themselves. According to […]

2006 MLB Draft
While it is definitely not as exciting as the NBA or NFL live drafts, the MLB draft is chalk full of players that will be selected throughout today and tomorrow (June 6th-June 7th). As an intern at Career Sports & Entertainment last summer, I watched the entire draft, making sure that I was the first […]
Expanding Presence Overseas
Brandweek.com has an interesting story covering the immense marketability of star Yao Ming. Ming receives about $15 million per year in endorsements alone. China is an emerging market economically speaking, and may also open many eyes in America as more athletes arise in U.S. professional leagues. The 2008 Summer Olympics will be in Beijing, and […]
