At Virginia Law School, there is a lot of interest in strengthening the Sports and Entertainment section of the school. One of the most frequent questions that I receive as someone who has studied the Sports Agent profession for a while now is whether or not an aspiring agent should go to Law School. The […]

David Beckham, move aside. You are only an extreme case in a sport that has notoriously paid low salaries to its players. Nick Saban, Bobby Petrino, and Dom Capers; please stand up. In the past, I have written articles that document the recent splurge in payment to college coaches [Want to be a College Coach’s […]
The Sports Law Blog has updated its list of self-identified Sports Law Professors at U.S. law schools around the country. Self-identified Sports Law Professors may not be experts in sports law, and many who are experts may have decided against identifying themselves as such. Anyway, this could be a useful tool for those of you […]
Check out USATODAY.com’s great table for the Top 25 Final Coaches’ Ballots. One thing that caught my eye was where FAU coach Howard Schnellenberger ranked Louisiana State University. On July 25th, I talked about how the salaries of coaches in all collegiate sports are on the rise. Today, I highlight USAToday.com’s in-depth analysis of college football coach income [USATODAY.com – Coaches compensation]. A few things stick out. In particular: Coaches at the top D-I programs make an average yearly salary of $950,000 before […]
The Wharton Sports Business Initiative (WSBI) is unlike the other degree granting programs that I have highlighted in the past. WSBI calls itself a research and executive education focused “think tank.” Involved in the program are educational programs, strategic corporate partnerships, consulting assignments, forums, and research. Above all, WSBI wants to become a premier Research […]
Money is everywhere in college sports. It was recently reported that the Big 12 has spent nearly $1.6 billion dollars on facility projects since its formation in 1996. Below lists the top 5 universities by operating profit in 2005 (since total 2006 dollars have yet to be reported).  University of Georgia  $23.9 million University […]
