My take
Gabbert is a guy blessed with ideal size for the position at 6-4 234 while being deceptively fast (4.61 in the 40 at the combine). He can make all the throws and has ran the spread offense while at Missouri. He hasn’t put up huge numbers, which is rare for players running the spread. His demeanor and football smarts have been evident in interviews and teams really like this kid. He seems to be on the surface the safest pick among the top quarterbacks. I would hold off on this conclusion due to his unimpressive numbers in such a prolific system for quarterbacks. Most teams are very hesitant towards QB’s Ryan Mallett & Cam Newton due to off the field incidents and character concerns which has made Gabbert everyone’s default “safer” pick of the three. He just hasn’t proven enough to me to be considered an early first round selection. I have him graded as a late first or early second rounder. Scouts seem to love him and all it takes is one team to fall in love with a guy for him to go higher then his value. Gabbert is a lock for the first round, potentially as high as the top five picks.
