Joey Rodriguez was a big part of Virginia Commonwealth’s deep run in the NCAA Tournament. While my eye was on Jamie Skeen in my VCU Agent Selection Scenarios post, that same post did note than only 2 solid players have come out of VCU in recent years. Larry Sanders selected Happy Walters of Rogue Sports as his agent. Eric Maynor selected Andy Miller of ASM Sports as his agent. Joey Rodriguez has selected to follow the path of Maynor, and sign with ASM Sports, albeit with agent Andrew Vye.

Joey Rodriguez is a 5’10 guard who actually had his points-per-game decrease in his senior season even though he had marginally more minutes-per-game than in his junior year. Furthermore, his field goal percentage of 34.4% will have to be improved. But helping push his team to the Final Four cannot hurt. Let’s see where Andrew Vye and crew place Rodriguez to play professional ball.

It will be interesting to see how he fares in the NBA (if at all). He was definitely important to VCU’s tournament run. Maybe he has some intangibles they can really sell, because there are lots of young guards in the NBA and lots more entering in this draft that I would put above him. Besides, Eric Maynor was a stud at VCU and arguably better than Rodriguez, and he is a backup on a young team.
34.4% FG, 33.7% 3PT will definitely need to see improvement. Then, I think he might be able to make something happen in the big leagues.
