Illinois senior point guard Sam Maniscalco has not had an easy college career. He played at Bradley University prior to transferring to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the middle of his senior season (which turned out to be a medical redshirt season for him). Then, at the University of Illinois, Maniscalco had more injury problems. He is hoping that his newly hired agent, Kevin Bradbury of BDA Sports will persuade scouts to ignore Maniscalco’s injury ridden path and focus on the value he can add to professional basketball teams.
The glaring concern is Maniscalco’s left ankle, which was surgically repaired twice in 2010 and then re-injured again this past season. Maniscalco does not appear to have false impressions that he can make it onto an NBA team; he has plans to attain Italian citizenship and hopefully make it onto an Italian team’s roster. Bradbury, who is part of an agency that has quite a bit of experience placing players overseas, should be able to assist Maniscalco in his efforts.
