TPG Sports Career Conference Anticipates Over 200 Attendees

What: 3rd Annual TPG Sports Group Career Conference

When: March 28-29, 2014

Where: Wells Fargo Auditorium, Charlotte, North Carolina

About: For the third consecutive year, undergraduate and graduate students along with sports business professionals will descend on Charlotte, North Carolina for the third annual TPG Sports Group Career Conference.  The two-day event will feature speaker panels, a career fair, networking sessions, and much more.  Some confirmed speakers include Jackie MacMullan (Writer, ESPN), Tera Black (COO, Charlotte Checkers), Kami Taylor (SVP Marketing/Events, Octagon), Tom Renedo (Sr. Manger, Business Affairs, EA Sports), and others.

Pete Philo — President of TPG Sports Group and International Scout for the Indiana Pacers — explained to Sports Agent Blog how much his team encourages sports business/management professors and career service individuals to attend the event in order to see the entire conference on display.

“We’re proud of our product. We do things the right way — we’re not a meat market,” Philo added.  “Our success rate has been pretty darn good.  We tell our companies and tell our speakers, ‘We want you to give opportunities. We want you to hire for internships and for positions.  If you can’t, we then want you to identify a few people who you can have good conversations with and keep them in your rolodex and keep their resumes stored somewhere because you’re going to be hiring eventually’.”

Philo expects 200-plus attendees at this week’s event from all over the Southeast, with upwards of 40-50 companies present and many looking to hire for internships and full-time positions.  Below is a full schedule of the two-day event.
