Marcus Smart Signs With Lee Melchionni of Wasserman Media Group

Only hours after declaring for the 2014 NBA Draft, Marcus Smart signed with Lee Melchionni of Wasserman Media Group. Melchionni currently represents Byron Mullens (76ers), and he is the secondary agent to Danilo Gallinari (Nuggets), Kris Humphries (Celtics), Kendrick Perkins (Thunder), Tiago Splitter (Spurs), and Gerald Henderson (Bobcats).

Smart has had his fair share of critics during his 2-year stint at Oklahoma State University. This year Oklahoma State University did not live up to its potential and Smart found himself suspended for 3 games after getting into an altercation with a fan. Further, some were critical of Smart for returning for his sophomore season because he likely would have been a top 3 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

Smart stated, “I had a great season here at Oklahoma State. It’s weird, because I didn’t go to the NBA Draft last year, I chose to come back – which I do not regret at all. A lot of people say I made the wrong decision. But who are they to tell me what I should have done? It’s me, not them. I believe I made the right decision. I get to do what I love to do.”

During his sophomore season, Smart increased his scoring average from 15 to 18 points and averaged 5.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.9 steals per game.  According to ESPN.com, Smart will likely be a lottery pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

DraftExpress.com was the first to announce the signing.
