Braves INF Johan Camargo Signs With Octagon

According to a Tweet from Jon Heyman, Atlanta Braves infielder Johan Camargo has signed with Octagon for his representation.

The 24-year-old Panama-native looks to have a breakout season for the Braves in 2018 after surprising many within the organization in 2017. After being touted as one of the best fielding prospects in their farm system, Camargo missed the Opening Day roster after struggling in Spring Training. Due to injuries, he found himself making his Major League debut on April 11, 2017.

He spent most of the 2017 season with the Braves’ AAA affiliate in Gwinnett, Georgia (formerly Gwinnett Braves, now the Gwinnett Stripers), where he hit .295/.340/.473 in 33 games. He had two stints with the Big League club, playing in 82 games and hitting .299/.331/.452 with four homeruns and 27 RBI. He took over the starting shortstop position when former first overall pick, Dansby Swanson, was demoted to AAA and saw regular playing time until suffering a knee injury in early August. When he returned a month later, Swanson returned to form back at short, so Camargo saw time at third.

He is under team control until after the 2020 season, when he will become eligible for arbitration for the first time.
