Southern University Law Center will host their 2020 Sports and Entertainment Symposium on September 18-19.
According to their website: The legal field is broad and extensive when it comes to choosing an area of specialization. The world of sports and entertainment is no different, as it can range from sports to technology to music and media. As a result, the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) department at the Southern University Law Cent is set to host a virtual Sports and Entertainment Symposium on September 18th-19th. The seminar will feature noted legal, music and branding professionals.
“We have students with interest in the sports and entertainment industry and the intersectionality of those genres with the legal profession,” says Marla Dickerson, director of the Law Center’s CLE program. Dickerson said “it is essential to provide students with an understanding of what opportunities are available to them.”
Nationally recognized attorney, Donald Woodard, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Currently, Woodard acts as deputy general counsel/chief of business affairs of USA Track and Field.
Panelists include Zandria Conyers, deputy general counsel of the NCAA, Butch Hartfield, senior national director of promotion of Epic Records; Dominique Lee, Brand Management Executive at 8th Wonder; Jennifer Duval, vice president of business affairs at NBCUniversal Media, LLC; Niya Fleming, artists and repertoire (A&R) for Def Jam Recordings, and more.
Attendees will have the chance to participate in panels such as “Music Industry 101”, “Brand Protection” and “Sports, Entertainment, and Intellectual Property” and more.
Registration for the virtual event is now open at www.sulc.edu/sportsent. The website also contains the event schedule and bios on the panelists. Participants from Louisiana, Georgia, and Mississippi participants are eligible for 10 CLE credit hours.
