Excel Sports Management Lands Funding From Shamrock Capital Investment

Sports marketing and talent representation agency, Excel Sports Management, has secured outside funding from Shamrock Capital Investment. This is the first time Excel Sports has taken an outside investment and according to Forbes, Shamrock Capital typically invests north of $30 million into new ventures.

Founded in 2002, Excel Sports bolsters a roster of 180 clients across basketball, golf, baseball, and football. They currently have $4 billion in active contracts and represent some of the most notable athletes in sports including Tiger Woods, Derek Jeter, and Blake Griffin.

Top agents Casey Close, Jeff Schwartz, and Mark Steinberg will still continue to lead Excel Sports and are very excited about utilizing Shamrock Capital’s strategic resources in this partnership. Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports says, “We have built an incredible team of people at Excel and this investment will allow us to leverage Shamrock’s strategic advice, add resources to amplify our offerings and execute on the tremendous opportunity we see in the sports and media landscape.”

Shamrock Capital currently has a total of $2.1 billion of assets under management and has current investments in notable companies such as Adweek, Appetize, FanDuel, Mobilitie and Pixellot. Mike LaSalle, a partner at Shamrock Capital, says “Excel understands the power of talent today and, importantly, has a clear vision of how talent will increasingly transcend platforms in the future. We look forward to helping Jeff and his team build the agency and execute upon this forward-thinking, strategic vision.”
