On To The Next One: J.D. Martinez

Soon-to-be free agent outfielder J.D. Martinez has decided to make a change in his representation, signing with MLB super-agent Scott Boras according to Rob Bradford. He was previously represented by Bob Garber of RMG Baseball.

With the 2017 MLB season coming to an end when either the Dodgers or Astros take home the World Series crown, teams will be strategizing their free agent decisions. Tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. EST is when eligible players can begin filing for free agency, with Martinez expected to be highly sought after.

The 30-year-old slugger was traded from the Detroit Tigers to the Arizona Diamondbacks this past season. Although he was sidelined with a foot injury for the first month of the season, he hit a career high 45 home runs and drove in 104 RBI, another career high. On the season his slash line was .303/.376/.690.

He signed with the Astros after being drafted 611th overall in the 2009 MLB Draft and made his MLB debut in 2011, becoming the first player from Nova Southeastern University to play in the MLB. After three seasons in Houston, he was released and signed with the Detroit Tigers where he flourished. As one of the top free-agent bats on the market, teams are sure to be very interested in signing him. With Boras at the negotiating table, his signing will certainly come with a high price tag.
