First reported by The Blast, Independent Sports & Entertainment (ISE) is suing Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler for breach of contract. In the suit the firm claims that Butler signed an agreement with them back in 2013 involving assistance in marketing and public relations. The deal consisted of language agreeing to commissions for services including “15% of the Gross Compensation, paid to, earned by, or credited to the Athlete in connection with each such activity”.
In the suit the company states that during the marketing and PR agreement Butler signed a $5 million-deal with Nike which would fall under the provision of “Gross Compensation.” ISE states that they were owed commission based off of the $616,666.67 payment Butler received when entering the contract with Nike. In a contract that has ran from 2016 to 2020, Butler was paid a $1 million signing bonus and $1 million for each of the first four years of the deal.
Per the original language of the agreement, ISE believes they are owed 15% of those earningsā¦ totaling $750,000. In the lawsuit the firm is seeking $842,250 in unpaid commissions and demanding that Butler’s camp reveal the full amont of monies he has been paid. In addition ISE is asking for interest added and attorny fees to be covered.
