Excel Sports Management has announced the signing of senior, Trey Murphy III from University of Virginia who will be joining their 2021 NBA Draft Class.
The 6’9″, 204-pound guard is from Durham, North Carolina where he attended high school at Cary Academy. While in high school, he was named All-Metro by the Raleigh News and Observer. He was a school leader in field goals made, three-pointers and free throws made. Prior to attending University of Virginia, Murphy attended Rice University. He ranked fourth in Conference USA in three-point field goal percentage and 14th in 3-pointers made per game. Murphy ranked second on his team with 64 3-pointers. He set the school freshman record for 3-point field goal percentage. In his second year at Rice, Murphy led the team in scoring, field goals made, dunks and blocks. He also ranked second in 3-pointers, steals and free throw percentage. His both seasons he was awarded Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
During the 2020-2021 season, Murphy transferred to University of Virginia where he was All-ACC Academic Team. He averaged 11.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He ranked seventh in the ACC in 3-point field goals made. During his time at Virginia, his team was ACC Regular Season Champion and went to the ACC Tournament Semifinals.
Murphy has been preparing for the upcoming 2021 NBA Draft and recently attended the NBA Draft Combine where he has continued to build his momentum in the pre-draft process. He has worked out for the Boston Celtics and Spurs already and has interviewed with: Sixers, Thunder, Suns, Lakers, Kings, Warriors and Grizzlies.
