As I sit in my apartment in Miami, Florida, procrastinating from completing a syllabus for a Sports Law class I will begin teaching in Fall 2015, I am reflecting on the past nine years and feeling an overwhelming sense of pleasure and pride. Nine years ago today I saw an opportunity to create this website, […]
Author: Darren Heitner
Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
It’s the day after Christmas, the Miami Heat beat the Cleveland Cavaliers and all is well in the world. Signing season is heating up, and many big time NFL prospects will begin to sign Standard Representation Agreements with NFLPA certified Contract Advisors. As always, Sports Agent Blog will stay on top of the signings and report […]
Shabbat Shalom my friends. And a Merry Christmas to those celebrating the holiday next week. A lot of interesting occurrences this week, including a featured interview on Above the Law and some coverage of a trademark application I filed for Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green (“Money Green”). As the year wraps up, I am looking […]
Head over to our friends at Above the Law for an ongoing conversation between Zach Abramowitz and me using Abramowitz’s innovative ReplyAll platform. Abramowitz is asking me questions about how Sports Agent Blog got started, why I chose a path that led me to becoming a lawyer with a focus on Sports Law and tips for those who […]
December 31, 2005. That was the day I decided to create this website. Amazingly, almost a decade later, it is still up and running, and hopefully providing worthwhile content to you that you enjoy to consume. Please let me know what we can do to make the website even better in the future. We have […]

Author Chris Lang is an Englishman living in Seattle who became a convert from British soccer and cricket to real football and baseball when he first went to watch the Seattle Seahawks and the Seattle Mariners almost ten years ago. It’s that time of year again when we can make pretty well–informed opinions on who’s […]
It’s Art Basel week in Miami, which means the streets are even more clogged than usual and parties recommend you dress in some sort of “Artistic Chic” fashion. Tough season for my Florida Gators, but we finally have a new coach. Hope remains high for the Miami Dolphins, with a big game against the Baltimore […]
The agent for Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett believes that paying college athletes a stipend on top of receipt of athletic scholarships is inevitable. Earlier this week, football agent and attorney J.R. Carroll spoke publicly about his position and took a position that I have held for quite some time — it is ridiculous to […]
I hope everyone reading this had a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoys the rest of their weekend. For me, it has been full of food, family, football and today a nice round of golf. The weather in South Florida is beautiful, which once again reminds me why I choose to live in this tropical paradise. This […]
