English Rugby gets bigger cap

The English Rugby Union is set to increase its salary cap. [English Rugby Union set for salary cap increase] The jump is quite significant, with the current cap at 2.2 million pounds, it will increase by double to 4 million pounds. This is an all inclusive cap, as currently concessions can be made for a team to go up to 3.4 million. This is still quite a significant jump, and is sure to attract overseas players.

England: Transfer Window

As I reported last week, the English Premier League transfer window is now open. No big moves have been reported so far, however:

– Former Newcastle Jet Nick Carle has moved from his Turkish club to Championship side Bristol City to help them gain promotion to the Premier League.

– Chelsea star Didier Drogba has stated that he won’t move in this window, though a move in June is still a possibility.

– Chelsea have had a 12 million pound offer rejected for Nicolas Anelka from Bolton. The forward has hinted his desire to move and Chelsea are likely to come back with another offer.

– Despite his love for the club, Tottenham striker Jermaine Defoe has been told he can leave the club. This is certain to get a few tails wagging, with Manchester United chasing Defoe a few years ago.

For more on transfers, Soccernet.com is by far the best site.

Slow news week this round, hope to have more next week!

I love Drogba, although he finds himself on ground a lot, but if he could find a way to play side by side with Eto or messi, on paper it's hard to see them losing. Soccer is a game of chemistry a lot of times…hopefully they could mesh.

IMHO,, Droggles isnt going anywhere. Barca already have Eto’o and just got Henry. They won’t add Drogba and Roman won’t let him leave, especially w/the crap strikeforce they have. Sheva is just about past it and Kalou and Pizarro will never be main strikers.

Anelka is close to signing with Chelsea, if they get the fee right. Defoe is on the market. Remember Drogba isn’t going to be at Chelsea for a while because he’s playing in the African Nations Cup, so they are going to have to bring 1 or 2 strikers in anyway.
