On To The Next One?: Marcell Dareus

Brandon Thorn has Marcell Dareus listed as the #1 Defensive End in a 3-4 scheme and #1 Defensive Tackle on his 2011 Top 5 at Each Position List, #4 on his 2011 Big Board, and being selected #2 overall by the Denver Broncos in his 2011 NFL Mock Draft.  No agent ever wants to lose a client, but losing a guy like Dareus just weeks prior to the NFL Draft has to sting worse than losing a different client at a different point in time.

We have recently been hearing that Dareus has dropped Todd France of France AllPro Athlete Management (FAAM), who had been representing Dareus since roughly the start of 2011.  As of the publishing of this post, Dareus has not officially chosen new representation; however, I hear that he is between only a couple of firms.  The two names that have popped up on my radar are Ladardere Unlimited and Allegiant Athletic Agency (a3).

Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.

Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
