Syracuse University senior guard Scoop Jardine has signed with NBPA certified agent Terrance Doyle of Veritas Venture Group, LLC (VVG). Doyle hopes that Jardine becomes his second NBA client, the first being Orlando Magic guard Von Wafer.
Doyle is a founding member and COO Director of Athlete Relations at VVG. He graduated high school in 2002 and Colorado Christian University in 2006 (with a degree in Finance), which leads me to believe that he is still in his 20s (the picture above appears to confirm his youth). Signing players like Wafer and Jardine at such a young age is certainly quite the accomplishment.
Doyle appears to bring a heavy dose of spirituality in his recruiting strategy. His company’s mission is the following:
Our Mission is to help people experience freedom in Christ through the powerful platform of professional basketball. Internally, we seek to empower and encourage NBA and other professional players in their faith. Externally, we target those disenfranchised by society: the widows, orphans, and children; the sick, the imprisoned and the impoverished. Simply, it’s Jesus through basketball, and He alone gets the glory.
And VVG’s “Message” is,
John 8:34-36
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” 34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
Rest assured, this company would not be the destination for guys like Tamir Goodman and Danny Schayes, but there are quite a few athletes who are strong Christian believers, and Doyle, through his Message and Mission, may be able to capture many additional clients who have NBA potential.
