Looking forward to putting the final touches on what was probably Heitner Legal’s busiest week to date. The one major problem with that is that at some point, that website, as well as all other sites I own (except for Sports Agent Blog, which is on a different server) was hacked. I am still having […]
Author: Darren Heitner
Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
Another very busy week is in the books. I began teaching a Sports Law class at the University of Florida’s graduate program, worked non-stop on Heitner Legal matters and signed Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones as a client to Dynasty Dealings.I am looking forward to exploring what types of off-field opportunities we can help negotiate […]

A Decade Of Sports Agent Blog
It was December 31, 2005 when I decided that I would create a blog dedicated to the business of sports agency. It was originally intended to serve as a platform for me to stay abreast of topics related to sports agents and make some connections in the industry. In fact, its first title was, I Want […]
It has been a couple weeks of major travels, with trips from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Portland, Oregon and then to Vancouver, Canada. I was able to check out Nike’s headquarters, University of Oregon athletic facilities and athletic technology company RYU in the process. I also had the unique opportunity to run combine drills and […]
I hope everyone had a tremendous Thanksgiving and the long weekend that came with it. This weekend, I am excited to be in the wedding party for one of my best friends. Then, on Monday, I am off to Oregon for a while to visit Nike headquarters, followed by another wedding, and then Vancouver to […]
Sport sponsorship can often come with various complications and issues, but it’s certainly something that is worth the time and hassle given the global exposure. Sponsorship is an excellent way of enhancing brand image and tends to catch the public eye – by attaching your name to that of a top class event you too […]
It is officially wedding season. Went to a beautiful one last weekend and have another wedding to attend tonight. Then, two more weddings before the end of the year. I should be heading to Vancouver and Oregon in between, but no complaints. I would not have it any other way. Just wrapped up my first […]
Greetings from Valparaiso Law School, where I will be speaking on a couple of panels with great friends in the Sports Law community. On tap for today is a discussion on breaking in to the Sports Law industry and a general debate with my buddy Marc Edelman on the world of fantasy sports. Speaking of […]
There is a belief that many football agents use other individuals (oftentimes referred to as “runners”) to assist them in the recruitment of potential NFL player clientele. In fact, the NFL Players Association has recognized same as being an issue and in 2012 amended its regulations to prohibit certified Contract Advisors from using, associating with, […]
